Visit to Ovans Peony Farm

June 2025 I visited Ovans Peony Farm in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, United States. They are open to the public every year for a short time, about 2 weeks, during peak peony season. I missed it last year so I was determined to get there this year. I wasn’t disappointed–it’s a beautiful flower farm. I took many photos to paint and draw from for the rest of the year.

I have a thing for peonies. When I was a kid, every summer I was given the task to deadhead our many peony bushes to encourage more blooming. I wasn’t very efficient at this—it took me much longer than it should have—because I was frequently distracted by the beauty of the blooms.

I enjoyed the trivia dotted around the farm. Did you know that the peony was the first flower known to be written about in Greek Mythology?

I will definitely be returning next year for peony season!
